Mexican Passport Validity Options and Fees Explained

Last updated: August 2026

Mexican passports are issued with four different validity periods, and the right choice depends on your age, how often you travel and your budget. Here is how the options compare.

The four validity options

How the fees compare

Passport fees are adjusted periodically, so treat the figures below as a general reference rather than a current quote. In recent years the fees have been approximately:

ValidityApproximate fee (MXN)Cost per year
1 year~815Highest per year
3 years~1,585Moderate
6 years~2,155Lower
10 years~3,940Lowest per year

The pattern is consistent: the longer the validity, the less you pay per year. For an adult who travels even occasionally, the ten-year passport is almost always the most economical choice. Always confirm the exact current fee through official channels before paying.

Discounts

Certain applicants have historically qualified for a reduced fee, commonly around fifty percent off. This has included adults aged sixty and over and people with disabilities, subject to presenting the appropriate documentation. If you believe you qualify, ask about the discount when booking, because it is not always applied automatically.

How to pay

Depending on the office, payment is made at authorized banks using a reference provided during the appointment process, or through the official online payment channel. Whichever method you use:
